VidRedi

Welcome to the VidRedi documentation. These pages cover installation, day-to-day operation, and administration of VidRedi and the Debian system it runs on.

What is VidRedi?​

VidRedi is a professional live media capture, recording, and playback system for broadcast and production workflows. It records from baseband capture cards and network streams, plays files back to SDI, and organizes recordings in an on-server library.

Key Features​

Time-Slip Recording​

Rewind and play live video while it is still being recorded. Review earlier content without stopping capture.

Live Recording​

Capture from several sources at once:

  • Baseband capture cards (Blackmagic DeckLink)
  • Incoming SRT and RIST streams
  • HLS download channels

Streaming Out​

Send live DeckLink video to remote destinations over SRT, RIST, or RTMP. SRT and RIST can listen for callers or send to a destination. RTMP is an outgoing destination only (for example YouTube or another ingest server).

Media Library​

Recordings and uploads are stored as packages: the video file, metadata, thumbnails, and sidecar files together. You can add cue points while a recording is still running.

Access Control​

Accounts use roles (viewer, operator, editor, admin, or a custom role) to control who can record, change channels, or manage the system. Give each person the least access their job needs.

Advanced Playback​

  • Play a recording while it is still being written
  • Load a library package onto a playback channel
  • Keyboard transport shortcuts (most compressed video cannot step a true frame at a time)
  • Several channels on one Dashboard

Updates and Licensing​

Install software updates from Configuration. Channel recording and playback require a valid license. See License.
