System Requirements
VidRedi is designed and tested on Debian 13 (Trixie). Other Linux distributions may work, but they are not the supported install path.
VidRedi is distributed as an installation disk image. See Install from the VidRedi Image. Contact VidRedi Support to obtain the image.
Hardware Requirements
CPU and GPU
- CPU: Intel, preferably 10th-generation or later
- GPU: Integrated GPU or Intel Arc
- Plan CPU capacity around how many channels will run at once
Capture Hardware
Baseband capture and SDI playback use a Blackmagic DeckLink card:
- Recommended models: DeckLink Duo 2, DeckLink Quad 2
- These models provide multiple input/output channels on one card
Network-only recording (SRT, RIST, HLS) does not require a DeckLink card. Playback to SDI and live DeckLink capture do.
Memory
- Minimum: 8 GB RAM
- Recommended: 16 GB or more for multi-channel setups
Storage
- Fast storage (SSD/NVMe) for recording channels
- Capacity depends on simultaneous recordings, bitrate, and how long you keep files
- OS disk: 500 GB
- Data disk: 1 TB
Keep recordings on a disk separate from the operating system. NVMe is the recommended medium. The installer prefers the larger disk for data and the smaller disk for the OS.
See Storage and Environment for the data path after install.
Software Dependencies
These packages are installed during setup. They do not come from the main Debian repository:
- GStreamer — A custom build with patches and Rust plugins, packaged by VidRedi
- Node.js — Version 22, from NodeSource Debian packages
- Blackmagic Desktop Video — Obtain the drivers from Blackmagic Design. Place the archive at
/simple-cdd/decklink.tar.gzon the installation disk to install them on first boot
