License

VidRedi DVR requires a valid license to utilize channel functionality on the device. This page explains how to register your license, what happens when it expires, and how to deregister a device.

Registering a License

If no license is registered, the License section in Configuration will show a Register Device button.

  1. Navigate to Configuration → License.
  2. Click Register.
  3. Enter your License Key (UUID format, e.g. XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX) and the Email Address associated with your purchase.
  4. Click Register to submit.

On success, the page will display the masked license key and the expiry date. The software will immediately verify the license with the Vidredi server.

License Verification

The license is validated every 24 hours. No manual action is required.

License Expiry and Grace Period

When a license expires, VidRedi has a 21-day grace period and does not stop working immediately.

StatusEffect
License validFull functionality
Expired, ≤ 21 daysDaily warning notification, full functionality
Expired, > 21 daysChannel interaction is blocked
Grace Period

Once the 21-day grace period has ended, starting new channels will be blocked. Existing recordings and all other functionality remain unaffected. Renew your license and re-register to restore recording capability.

A warning notification is sent once per day during the grace period. An error notification is sent once the grace period expires.

Deregistering a Device

To remove this device from your license (e.g. before moving the license to a different server):

  1. Navigate to Configuration → License.
  2. Click Deregister.
  3. Confirm the action in the dialog.

After deregistration, the license key is removed from the configuration and new recordings will be blocked until a license is registered again.

Troubleshooting

"Unable to connect to the license server" The server could not reach https://api.vidredi.com. Check that the VidRedi server has outbound internet access on port 443 to the api.vidredi.com domain. The previously cached license status will be used until the connection is restored.

"Received an unexpected response from the license server" The API returned a response that could not be parsed. This is usually a temporary server-side issue. Try again in a few minutes. If the problem persists, contact [email protected].
