Package Naming Templates
Naming templates set the name of a new recording when it starts. They can include the date, time, and channel name, and they can create folders.
Set the default template on Configuration → System. Override it on a single channel in the channel editor.
Priority
- An explicit name (for example, an uploaded file)
- The channel’s template, if it is set
- The system-wide template, if it is set
- The built-in default: channel name plus the system date format
Variables
Insert variables from the field’s Insert variables control, or type them yourself. All variables are optional.
Date
| Variable | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
{systemDateFormat} | Current time in the format from Configuration → System | January 15, 2026 2:05 PM |
{YYYY} | Four-digit year | 2026 |
{YY} | Two-digit year | 26 |
{MM} | Month | 01–12 |
{DD} | Day of month | 01–31 |
Time
| Variable | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
{HH} | Hour, 24-hour clock | 00–23 |
{h} | Hour, 12-hour clock | 1–12 |
{A} | AM or PM | AM |
{mm} | Minute | 00–59 |
{ss} | Second | 00–59 |
Channel and folders
| Variable | Meaning |
|---|---|
{channelName} | The channel’s name |
/ | Folder separator. Everything before the last / becomes folders. The last segment is the package name. |
Presets
The editor includes these starting patterns:
| Preset | Pattern |
|---|---|
| Channel and System Date | {channelName} {systemDateFormat} |
| Channel and Date | {channelName} {YYYY}-{MM}-{DD} |
| Channel Folder with Date | {channelName}/{YYYY}/{MM}/{systemDateFormat} |
| Simple Date | Recording {YYYY}-{MM}-{DD} |
| Date and Time | Recording {YYYY}-{MM}-{DD} {HH}:{mm}:{ss} |
| Date and Time AM/PM | Recording {YYYY}-{MM}-{DD} {h}:{mm}:{ss} {A} |
| System Date Format | Recording {systemDateFormat} |
Folders From a Template
If the template contains /, VidRedi creates any missing folders in the library.
For example, {channelName}/{YYYY}/{MM}/{systemDateFormat} on a channel named Camera 1 creates Camera 1 → 2026 → 01 and names the package with the system date format.
- Existing folders with the same name are reused.
- The last segment after the final
/is the recording name.
A recording started from the Dashboard is still created in the folder that is currently open in the library when the name has no /. Folder segments in the template create or use that path regardless.
Notes
- Templates are applied when a recording starts.
- You can use only static text if you want a fixed name.
- The field shows a preview using sample values so you can check the result before you save.
